Two year old daith piercing sore suddenly

Not much more to add. I've touched the thing at least once every day since; never changed the surgical steel captured ball ring (I can't do it myself; can't be bothered to research shops in my new area who'll help).

Honestly, thinking about taking it out permanently. The reason I touch it so much is, I can feel it shift and brush my skin and it's made my ear chronically flakey around the piercing, from constantly rubbing away the tickle.

No one ever mentioned resizing my jewelry--should I try that? I'm not In™ to piercing, I only got it because I have migraines (it didn't work for me), so any tips/advice would help.
