Torn between B&R ZDX vs Baseline vs Travelpro Crew Compact for solo carry on... pockets vs wheels?

Discussion

Hey everyone, I am trying to pick a new soft side carry on and I keep bouncing between the Briggs & Riley ZDX, B&R Baseline, and the Travelpro Crew Classic Compact.

I travel constantly for work and personal trips all over the world (Europe, South America, Middle East, North Africa, etc). I travel strictly with ONE carry on bag. No backpack, no personal item, nothing else. Because I only have one bag, being able to quickly grab my laptop, passport, and boarding pass at security or in the terminal is a massive deal.

Here is where my head is at with each:

Baseline: The build quality is insane and the wheels roll so much smoother than the ZDX. The classic ballistic nylon looks like it will still look timeless 15 years from now. Also the frame is sturdy enough that you can actually sit on it when there are no seats at the gate. The huge downsides are the front pockets. The main front pocket is super tight for a laptop, and the smaller top pocket is so flush it is annoying just trying to get your hand in to grab a passport. It is also heavy, and I have zero use for the suiter or the compression system.

ZDX: The front pockets are actually functional and have real depth, so pulling out a laptop or passport on the fly is way easier. there’s about 5 extra litres of packing space. It is also lighter and keeps the B&R lifetime warranty. The big drawback is the wheels. They feel noticeably cheaper and less smooth than the Baseline, and the handle has a bit more play in it.

Travelpro Crew Compact: Much cheaper, the fabric feels better than the ZDX, the handle is solid, and the wheels are super smooth. The front pockets are definitely better than the Baseline, though not quite as spacious as the ZDX. Downsides are that it is sized smaller for strict international bins so it holds less clothes, and the warranty does not compare to the B&R lifetime guarantee.

For anyone who does strict single bag travel: Are the better wheels and durability on the Baseline or Travelpro worth dealing with cramped front pockets? Or does the ZDX pocket setup win out for grabbing a laptop and passport on the go?
