Questions about experience getting diagnosed
Hello
I am being tested for adrenal insufficiency. I had a low morning cortisol test and am seeing an endocrinologist for the first time Monday. I have been doing as much research as I can to prepare.
I was wondering if anyone could share what their experience was like doing the ACTH test? Did you feel sick after? How long did it take to recover?
It’s possible my multivitamin (which contained biotin) could have interfered with my result. So I may have to decide whether to retake the morning cortisol test first or go right to the ACTH. It took a few weeks to get a morning cortisol test, weeks to get the result, more weeks to get my endocrinologist appointment and I don’t know how long it will take to get an appointment for the ACTH. Are there any adverse effects of the ACTH? What would you do?
I am currently ok. I had pretty intense nausea, fatigue and brain fog this winter. I had to take a leave of absence from university. However, I slowly recovered. Which, to my doctor, makes adrenal insufficiency seem less likely because she says it rarely gets better without treatment. Has anyone experienced recovering from flare without cortisol?
What do you wish you’d asked your endocrinologist at the diagnostic stage?
Thanks for reading and any and all responses
