Movies that get better when you already know the twist.
I have recently been obsessed with Shutter Island (2010) since I rewatched it for the first time in years with my bf. I was really blown away by how different the movie is when you already know that the twist is coming. Every scene in the movie takes on a totally different meaning if you know the ending, major events and quick minor shots all tell a different story.
Some of my other favorite twist movies, like The Prestige or Fight Club, even The Sixth Sense. don’t do this. The whole movie making sense at the end hinges on the audience not seeing the twist first.
So I was wondering if anyone can come up with another movie that does this well, where knowing the twist ending makes a second viewing a completely different movie. The closet example I could think of was Memento, where once you know who Joey Pants’ character is, you can see his motivations more clearly. Do you have any other examples?
