Confrence Publications or Journal Publications

For context I'm a junior and was recently accepted at a conference. I was talking to a college counselor and they said that a conference paper esp at like national level is much more impressive compared to a high school journal and that a quote actual science journal is really rare as a high schooler. So i was wondering if that really was the case since I see people in my school and like in this sub talking abt having multiple journal publications and it doesn't really seem that rare to me. Should I continue just trying for conference papers or should I try publishing in a journal? How do ao's view it?
