The Hamlet Journal - 10
Week 10.
A tidy profit. As the men tell it, they found a towering figure that commanded the dead but they piled on it like brutish children on a play-ground and made short work of it.
They wanted to scout a mite further but packs mostly full and rations already gone, they cut their winnings, as it were, and returned.
Speaking of returned, they did most assuredly not end the only source of bodies returned to motion, of that perfidious unlife present around the Manor. They reported sightings of more shambling skeletons about in their return but did not engage in combat. We will have to look further.

Postel, in a last fit of impulse before recovery, donated a large sum of money gold to the Abbey. Can not blame the man. If he found God after returning from near-death and burying his comrades I'll not tut him for spending money he bled to earn.
There have been some conversations with the Abbot, he believes the living dead can be weakened by ensuring that pagan places of worship in the Ruins are found and cleansed in holy ritual.
I would normally not adscribe much worth to such a plan but we're in uncharted territory and lacking any better ideas I might as well tick one item off the list. Reynauld and Brai will go to this mission to train two newcomers.
The reactivation of life in the Hamlet seems to be in hitting its stride, as builders and artisans have come to me with different ideas to build anew in unused patches of land or demolishing abandoned, derelict buildings. I shall give them audience but they best come with good ideas if they want me to part with the maddeningly fluctuating budget of this place. Most towns have industries of corn, of weaveworks, of smithing. We ply plunder and adventure here but they are business both rewarding and unreliable. Had I known I would be coming to what amounts to a war-torn Hamlet with rickety amenities and collapsing structures, I would have commandeered a force of laborers, mercenaries and a much larger measure of my savings in order to fuel its revival from the start.

After returning from the reunion with the builders I have but one word to say: Usury.
There were several ideas, some terrible, some with merit, but one shone immediately upon others and persisted on my mind: a building to store and lend coin and accrue interest for those dilligent enough not to spend it outright.
It is a straightforward solution to more than one problem I've described in this diary and while I do not have the funds necessary for its construction at the time being, I am fairly close to the reasonable amount that was requested. Some of the ciphers they mentioned with regards to one building or the other were almost as absurd as the corrosion of sanity and order going on in this place for establishments of much more dubious usefulness.
I will fight the horrors and inhuman otherwordliness that plague the Hamlet with the horrific and inhuman but very worldly weapon of compound interest.
