I am so f***ing fed up with Dollar General.

Rant

Today and tomorrow are my first days off after working 12 consecutive days. I closed last night and didn’t even get out until 10:15 PM, so naturally I put my phone on Do Not Disturb because I wanted to actually sleep. On top of that, this is the one weekend I get to have my son before he starts school, and I haven’t gotten nearly enough time with him lately.
So today I take my son to DG to let him pick out some toys, and my manager sees me and immediately goes, “Why didn’t you answer my text this morning?”
I genuinely had no idea what she was talking about.
I check my phone and apparently she texted me at 5:40 IN THE F***ING MORNING because another employee was sick and she needed me to come in “ASAP.”
Ma’am.
I just worked TWELVE DAYS IN A ROW. I closed the night before. It is my scheduled day off. I am asleep at 5:40 AM, and even if I had seen it, I have my son all weekend. I told her straight up, “I have my son all weekend. There’s no way.”
Then she starts telling me that the district manager wants us to get 40 rolltainers done between today and tomorrow.
And all I could think was: That sounds like a management/corporate problem, not a me-on-my-day-off problem.
I admittedly lost my filter at that point and told her those expectations were completely unrealistic and said, “Shit in one hand, wish in the other, and see which one fills up faster.”
Probably not my most professional moment. 😂 But Jesus Christ, I am DONE.
This company will understaff the hell out of a store, work the employees they do have into the ground, schedule someone 12 days consecutively, and then act surprised when that person isn’t available at 5:40 AM on their first day off to come save the store.
I’m a lead sales associate making $13 an hour, not an on-call emergency response team.
I have a family. I have a life outside that building. My scheduled days off are not just empty spaces where DG can summon me because somebody called out.
And expecting 40 rolltainers in two days while already being short staffed? You can write whatever number you want on a piece of paper. That does not magically create more employees, more hours in the day, or more physical energy.
At this point, I genuinely do not care anymore. I will work hard when I am scheduled to work, but Dollar General already got 12 straight days out of me.
My son gets my weekend.
I have an interview Monday somewhere else with a 61% increase in hourly pay, paid training and advancement opportunities. I hope like hell I get it
