Hello everyone!

I'm u/Enderluck from Eldritch Entertainment. You can support us on [Patreon](https://patreon.com/EldritchE).

This is some rules rework for my [Project Excelsior](https://www.patreon.com/posts/project-d-d-5e-147186929?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link), a D&D 5e 2024 rework.

# Changes

**Vision and Light**

Here are some changes to the lighting and obscured areas, adding realism and fixing odd interactions.

* Introduced the concept of Clear Areas.
* Lightly Obscured areas now also affect vision when attempting to see into or through them, not only when inside.
* Heavily Obscured areas no longer apply the Blinded condition; effects are applied directly and impact vision when standing in or looking through them, not only when looking inside.
* Added Blinding Light and Dazzling Light (used for spells and other stuff).
* Dim Light is no longer classified as Lightly Obscured; effects are applied directly and only when viewing something within the area.
* Darkness is no longer classified as Heavily Obscured; effects are applied directly.
* Clarified the concept of Line of Sight.

This prevents odd situations, like being Blinded when looking into Bright Light while also standing in Bright Light, but with a patch of ordinary Darkness in between and no Darkvision (cause Darkness was considered Heavily Obscured, and therefore opaque).

**Cover**

Here are some changes for Cover rules.

* Introduced translucient Total Cover.
* Clarified the concept of Clear Path.

This should prevent odd situations, like a glass window being considered opaque just because it provides Total Cover.

**Blinded \[Condition\]**

Here are some changes to the Blinded condition. This is to prevent weird interactions when you have ways to see a creature without using sight.

* Specified that you automatically fail any ability check that requires sight **due to being unable to see.**
* Specified that attacks are affected only if you can't see a creature.

**Blindsight \[Sense\]**

Here are some changes to Blindsight, adding realism and fixing odd interactions.

* Added that you can see in any light level as if it were Bright Light (cause I added two new levels).
* Added that you can ignore most obscured areas.
* Added that you can see through visual illusions.
* Added that you can't see colors or things without relief.

This prevents odd situations, like having Disadvantage on Perception checks that require sight while inside a Lightly Obscured area (cause Blindsight is also considered sight), or that visual illusions affect you (other than Blur and Mirror Image spells cause they specifically state otherwise).
