What am I doing wrong? 26F trying to make friends

Question

I’m 26F, born and raised in Dallas, and I’m genuinely at a loss for how difficult it has been for me to make real friends here.
I have acquaintances, but I don’t have a close friend group or anyone I would consider a best friend. I’ve been struggling with this for years, and I’m honestly what to know what I’m doing wrong.

I have pretty bad social anxiety, but I’ve made a real effort to put myself out there. I’ve joined Facebook groups, gone to meetups and events, tried book clubs, church groups, social groups, etc. I’ve initiated conversations, exchanged numbers/social media, and actually tried to follow up.

But it keeps going the same way: we’ll have a great conversation, exchange contact information, maybe even make plans- and then I get ghosted. Or people say they’re interested in hanging out and never actually follow through. Eventually, I realize I’m the only one putting in effort.
And honestly, I’m starting to feel really sad and defeated by it.

My self-esteem is probably at an all-time low. After experiencing this over and over again, it’s hard not to start wondering if there’s something inherently unlikeable about me that I’m just not seeing. I know logically that not every failed friendship is a reflection of my worth, but after years of the same pattern, it’s becoming really difficult not to take it personally.

I’m not expecting to immediately become best friends with someone. I understand friendships take time. I just want people who are genuinely interested in getting to know me and willing to make an effort.

It feels like everyone already has their established friend groups. I don’t need a huge social circle. I just want a few genuine friendships and people to do life with.
