does "made with whole grains" actually mean whole wheat bread?
short answer: usually no. "made with whole grains" only means some whole grain is in there, and it can be five percent. the thing that actually tells you is the first ingredient. if it reads enriched wheat flour, it's white bread with a little whole grain added so the front of the bag has something to say. if it reads whole wheat flour, it's the real thing.
color doesn't help either. plenty of brown loaves are brown because of molasses or caramel coloring, not because of the grain.
i just read the first ingredient and ignore the entire front of the package now.
what's a label phrase you stopped trusting?
