A sentiment I see heavily is that Kris is the pure victim in the weird route. That they have no involvement, don't want it at all, and overall are just not important to it occurring. Just a tool to be used up.

This, I feel, is a complete misunderstanding of the dynamic the Soul and Kris have, one that I feel has made good Kris's analysis basically impossible.

The first thing that I want to claim is that Kris is the one in control, in the normal route, and in the weird route.

Going off what we have now, we know:

1-***Kris can stop us from moving, force us to move, and pull us out at any time.***

They do this in chapter 1 once and chapter 2 twice.

In chapter 4 they can do it up to 3 times, once at the guitar, another in Noelle's room if you abort the weird route, and another at the end of the chapter. It's especially interesting that they can take us out immediately after the Noelle room scene.

They do it twice again in chapter 5. Once at the end of the chapter extremely quickly if you reject walking, Susie. Where they afterward move just fine with Susie. Once again, they are showing they have no issue just ripping us out anytime, even FORCIBLY walking us off screen to do it. Something I find very, very interesting, though, is that they can still pull us out on AWR with no trouble, even after being shown to be heavily fatigued and tired.

So, we know they can pull us out any time, forcibly walk us far distances to do so, and can do it even when heavily fatigued/tired or on WR. Then why don't they do it during any of the weird route scenes? We even know they can do it even in the middle of a dialog happening, as shown with the end of chapter 5.

Could it possibly be they don't fully want to?🤔

2-***Kris has an interpretation of our commands (including Procced ):***

Firstly, when we ask Kris to do something, what does that mean? Well, we can't, of course, send our intentions into the game, but what we do know is that Kris must follow the bare minimum of what they think the command means.

This is shown with Asriel's cyberworld door, the deodorant, the sticker onto Susie, the church door, etc. In all cases Kris interprets the command how they see fit, contradicting what the player may want (which could happen in all common options really; the game can't 100% predict what the player means when choosing something).

This is actually required for the procceds to make sense. Why is it in one case that "procced" means push Noelle towards electricity, and in another it can mean pull out the thorn ring I NEVER knew you had and put it on Noelle? The command of Procced is extremely malleable, so who is deciding what it means in all these different situations?

Kris, of course, unless you claim Gaster or something, the game has no way of reading what we interpret it as. Especially when Kris does things we never knew were possible.

This also explains why they can't just stop saying the chapter 4 Thorn Ring, like they're able to do in so many other situations. They can't interpret Procced as anything else but doing that. To procced in that situation with them would be to take out the thorn ring and equip it on Noelle.

3-***The options come from Kris, and so does the narration:***

This is just straight up shown unambiguously at the start of chapter 5 WR; Kris blacks out their thoughts and doesn't give us any narration/choices. We know it's them as well causing it since it comes back after they see Susie and they lighten up a bit.

There are also a lot of other tidbits showing this (asking to be slammed into a wall by Susie or "bangin' sermon my man," etc.), but this alone is enough to show that in the context of WR.

So, is Kris the one thinking of Procceed? Yes, that's why it pops up during the lake scene even though we were shown just before Kris could lock it all away. Kris couldn't stop themselves from thinking of Procceding; maybe even Noelle's speech convinced them a bit. Could be why they say "stop" in a half-assed way even though we know they can sound genuine to Noelle ("... why did they sound so genuine?" for dog treats).

4-***Kris is conflicted:***

Some of you may then be saying, "But what about the bed scene? They clearly didn't want to at all!" to which I disagree. They could have stopped us there; they have shown time and time again they could (they do so just fine even after nearly drowning in the lake). The thing is that a part of Kris wanted to go see Noelle, and that is what we bring out as we shift inside of them, their deeper wants and desires.

We have many reasons to believe Kris wants to do WR anyway:

\-They just like Noelle feel trapped by the prophecy and the Knight gang. They want freedom just like Noelle does.

\-They keep the thorn ring

\-They would want Noelle to be stronger and protect them. And not just watch them get bullied by Susie time and time again.

\-They would want to be closer to Noelle again (are in more distress seeing them close in the photo book than seeing Dess in it, vote sequence, shadow crystal chapter 4, eta).

\-They have violent urges seeing from Eram and the chapter 4 egg room. I wouldn't say it's intrusive thoughts in the way a lot of people mean it, though, but rather intrusive wants.

\-They, though not to the extent of a snowgrave, have some built-up annoyance with Berdly berating and insulting them all the time. That's why the check during the battle points out his weakness to ice magic, and we know Kris affects checks going off the Tenna fight.

\-It isn't crazy to think that Kris has deeplore knowledge and may have some information about WR. Seeing as the mantle games are made in Kris's darkworld, aswell as Eram, someone deeply tied to Kris, seeming to be the weird route extraordinaire.

And more.

This is exactly what Eram called out, and NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE for some reason:

... no, part of you is just...  Enjoying this, isn't it?
The same part of you that enjoyed yesterday.
Knowing you could say it wasn't really you.
Oh, don't make that sour face.

Kris is using us as a way of deflection while allowing WR to happen. They hit the soul in chapter 4 not because they're just angry at us, but rather because they're the ones experiencing the pain and self-harm. We even know that Kris knows that we aren't the Soul; they look at the screen whenever referring to us (chapter 1 end, chapter 4 kitchen, and Ralsei chapter 3). And with the confirmation of the battle UI, we know our POV and, therefore, screen exist dietetically.

Kris knows they aren't harming us at all, only themselves.

The WR route is about Noelle AND Kris using us as catalysts to let out their deeper wants and desires. And even in NR, we are NOT in control at all of Kris. (The soul is lowkey a bum to be honest🥀. I can't even get Kris to open a door. 😭)

I keep seeing this pattern with Kris, where people just reduce them so much, I barely see any real analysis of them. It's just-

"Kris is the evil fountain opener that wants to end the world." (Clearly doesn't want to end the world),

"Kris is a Soul victim; they have no control over themselves!!" (If Kris wants to do something, they could do something; we are the ones without control.)

"Kris is a Soul hater; they want us dead!!" (Kris jokes with us multiple times, knows we aren't directly the Soul, and has an unused animation of them treating us lightly in the closet. We are just at odds because they don't trust the random thing in them with their very important Knight gang stuff, not hate.)

"Kris is a WR spectator; it says nothing about them!!" (Kris is instrumental to WR happening, just as much as Noelle. No other vessel could have done it. )

Don't mind all the strawman's

This is also why Soulelle doesn't exist and why the ARG calls it "Gross." It's not supposed to be your interpretation of WR; Kris genuinely did change,

    * I lost. I'm losing my inhibitions.

    * Will I... ever be able to come back from this?

    * Am I changing... permanently?

They are letting out what they hate themselves for wanting. Using us as an excuse. WR is Kriselle, just like the ARG treats it.

Also, this isn't contradicted by the "me" command in chapter 5. Its first of all easy to see how it came from Kris. They're referring to themselves when saying "me" as Kris sees themselves as the threat. Knowing they couldn't stop themselves of thinking of procceding and giving that option to the Soul.

All of that other dialogue in that scene could also be seen as them referring to themselves, begging themselves not to not want to do it, to not give the option, to stop the situation as they know they could.

You may argue that the mind reading shows it cant be kris, but we already know Kris can telepathically see through our POV with the "Think about \[blank\]" commands. And with options like, "Sorry, just a prank", appearing during the mind reading sequence alongside the WR choice. It makes most sense that both are coming from Kris.

Thank you for reading this little rant!! :p I would love to hear your thoughts.

I think the fandom has heavily misunderstood Kris and the weird route.
