I (F) have been friends with Anna (F, fake name) for the last 10yrs, and I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I've been a perfect friend. I've always been available to chat, but I struggle with depression and I have a hard time leaving the house sometimes. It's hard for me to have people over too, small living space, not a lot of seating and in the middle of being renovated while lived in.

Her problems aren't mine to share, so I'll leave it at she has family issues similar to mine, and I happen to know her parents pretty well, so not only do I empathize, but I literally understand and know how these people act.

My grandma died recently and this is how our convo looks. I'm posting here because honestly, my feelings are hurt, I understand she has her own life.

But my grandma just died and these responses just felt like I was talking to chatgpt, but even chatgpt is more empathetic than this...

Anyway reddit, AIO? Am I reading too into this because I'm hurt? I'm very sensitive right now, so it's very likely I am, but I just can't imagine responding to someone like this in this kind of situation and especially knowing the background.

Posting from a throwaway in the hope none of her friends browse this subreddit, but then, I also don't know that I care. She's not willing to talk about the fact my grandma died, why should I believe she'd be willing to talk about the fact her behavior is hurtful right now.

Mind you, she has no problem complaining when it's about her life, has no problem carrying the convo then. But I have multiple, multiple examples of me saying gosh, this thing sucks, and then her responding with memes and pics.

Ffs, the other day I tried to do the same to her, she told me she gave a friend a trinket, idk that friend, so I didn't respond, because what am I supposed to say? Cool, your friend liked their gift?

She actually sent that message again later saying, I don't know if you saw, but she liked her trinket. So I was like yeah! Awesome! It was rad (paraphrasing, I sounded far more genuinely interested, when I wasn't.)

Sometimes I feel like I could have a more cohesive conversation with Ai than I can with my friend of 10yrs. Please tell me I'm overreacting, I'd much rather just be told I'm sitting in a puddle of my own hurt, than to find out I'm not overreacting and she's actually being as shitty as it feels.
