cat poop and a crawling baby

so i (22f) have two cats and a 6mo baby. one of my cats is actually my childhood cat, who i got as a kitten when i was about 8 years old. she’s always had problems with randomly peeing on clothes on the ground but it used to be a once in a blue moon thing, or if i forgot to change the litter box or something. but it started getting more frequent, and usually in the same spots every day. i have no idea why. the spot shes choosing right now is about ten feet from the litter box. litter box is clean, fully accessible and it hasnt moved spots. i took her to the vet for it about three months ago and they said it could be stress from the new baby. i thought “okay, well maybe itll get better once she adjusts”

it has not, it has gotten progressively worse. it is almost every single day and the running list of things that she has destroyed by pooping/ peeing on them is growing. she pooped on my sons play mat, the replacement play mat i bought, a box of his toys, in his baby tub, and probably 2-3 baskets of laundry in the past three months alone. we started keeping everything off the ground as much as humanly possible and she just poops on random spots on the floor (including in the nursery). she even pooped on the floor right in front of me one time. it’s genuinely becoming a hazard. my son is about to start crawling any day now and im at such a loss on what to do. we dont have a big place (1 bedroom apartment) so it’s not like i cant just keep her out of the living room and nursery because thats like 75% of the space we have.

my mom says i should just surrender her to a local shelter but i dont have the heart to do it. ive had her for all 14 years of her life, and i think the stress of going to live in a shelter/ in a new home would actually kill her. shes elderly, shes disabled from a hip injury she got about 5 years ago (she can walk and run, but she has trouble jumping up onto the couch/bed). i dont even know of she would have a chance at getting adopted. shes such a sweet kitty and she’s great with my baby. but i also have to think about what’s going to be best for my baby, and i dont want him living amongst cat feces. im terrified he’ll somehow find one of her accidents before i do or something.

sorry this is an incredibly long (and gross) post but i wanted to know of anyone had anything similar happen to them, or any ideas of what might help. i just wanted to see what other parent’s perspective would be, i feel so guilty for even thinking of giving her away but im so worried about my baby getting sick.
