AI can't improve a process that only exists in someone's head.

I was listening to a conversation the other day about rolling out AI in a business.

Nobody was talking about the process behind it but everyone was talking about the technology.

It got me thinking that AI is being asked to solve problems that have very little to do with AI.

Everyone wants to know what it can automate. But before it can automate anything, there needs to be a process that's clear, repeatable and understood.

Who's responsible? What happens next? What happens if something changes?

If the answer is, "Ask Dave, he knows how it works," then AI probably isn't your biggest challenge.

I don't think AI is creating these gaps. It's simply shining a light on them.

Has introducing AI or automation ever uncovered a process that wasn't actually documented? I'd be interested to hear what you found.
