Worth joining DFA as an AO?

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has any first-hand experience working as an AO in the Department of Foreign Affairs?

I have been on the mobility list for DFA for a while but have been wondering if it'd be a less enjoyable experience working there as a non-diplomatic grade and if the work you are typically assigned is less interesting.

Also am curious if there is ever scope for AOs to go on postings abroad?

Thanks!
