First trip to the French Alps - itinerary check (end of November/beginning of December)
Hello everyone / Bonjour tout le monde,
This is my current travel itinerary for the French Alps. I'm submitting this itinerary as part of my visa application and also as my actual travel plan, so I really appreciate any feedback.
My travel partner works in Paris, so we will meet there. Then, we will set off together to Annecy on Saturday morning.
Personally, I studied in Rennes for a year, and I've never been to this region before. I specifically chose to travel in winter because I want to see the snow scenery (which is something we rarely see in Shanghai), and after a busy year, I'm mainly looking for a relaxing trip rather than a jam-packed travel schedule.
| Date | City | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| November 27 | Shanghai → Paris | Leisurely stroll in the city center (just to meet up) |
| November 28 | Paris → Annecy (TGV) | Explore the old town (Palais de l'Isle, European gardens, Château d'Annecy) |
| November 29 | Annecy | Day trip to Semnoz — snowshoeing + Mont Veyrier. If there's time, maybe a boat trip on the lake |
| November 30 | Annecy | Day trip to Talloires (Talloires Bay + Angon Falls) |
| December 1 | Annecy → Chamonix | Explore the city center + Les Granges de La Kiyora (mostly the Alpine roller coaster) |
| December 2 | Chamonix | Day trip to Flégère (opening on November 28) — Les Granges de La Kiyora → Flégère cable car, Mont Blanc views + QC spa |
| December 3 | Chamonix → Geneva | United Nations Geneva tour, lakeside stroll (fountain, Bains des Pâquis), Christmas market |
| December 4 | Geneva | Old town (St. Pierre Cathedral), Patek Philippe Museum, souvenir shopping |
| December 5 | Geneva → Shanghai | Duty-free |
What do you think of this itinerary overall?
Since this is my first time in this area, I'm mainly looking for a relaxing winter trip to enjoy some snow scenery, do you have any other activities or recommendations to add or change in Haute-Savoie (or nearby)?
Additionally, my friend is considering driving from Paris to the Alps. Is that more convenient than taking the train or bus?
Thank you very much!
