Industrial electricians crossing into EV repair — what actually transferred for you?
Been in industrial electrical for years and recently started digging into EV repair. The part that surprised me: a lot of the safety mindset carries over almost 1:1.
- LOTO and verification? Same idea, just with a high-voltage service disconnect and a discharge wait.
- Insulation resistance testing with a Megger? Basically the same as checking HV-to-chassis isolation.
- Reading schematics and chasing control loops? Direct transfer.
What didn't transfer for me: OEM diagnostic software, and anything inside the battery pack (that needs manufacturer training, not just a license).
For those of you who crossed over — what tripped you up? Anything you wish someone had told you before you started?
