The new 60 Ad Gem cap is a terrible change... just call it what it is 💸💸💸💳💳💳💴💵💶💷

I really don't understand why this change needs to be sold as:

«“reducing the disparity of gems earned from running the game 24/7.”»

Let's look at what actually changed.

Ad Gems went from 5 to 6 gems per claim, which sounds like a buff.

But they're now capped at 60 claims per day = 360 gems.

For casual players who never reached that amount anyway? Fine. Small buff.

For active and hardcore players? It's a straight-up nerf.

And before everyone immediately comes with “BUT AUTOCLICKERS AND BOTS!!!”... that's not really the point.

There are plenty of hardcore players who legitimately keep The Tower running for very long periods, overnight, on a second device, remotely, or in the cloud.

And if we're now saying that gaining resources while you're not actively staring at your phone is somehow unfair, where exactly do we draw the line?

Leaving your phone running overnight?

Second device?

Cloud gaming?

Remote access?

The game is literally designed around long-running, idle-style progression.

The real result of this change is very simple:

There is now a hard ceiling on how many free gems an active player can generate.

And the numbers aren't small.

Let's say somebody previously managed around 100 Ad Gem claims per day:

Old system:

100 × 5 = 500 gems/day

New system:

360 gems/day maximum

That's:

−140 gems per day

−980 gems per week

−4,200 gems per 30 days

−51,100 gems per year

Now take a more hardcore player doing around 150 claims per day:

Old:

750 gems/day

New:

360 gems/day

That's:

−390 gems per day

−2,730 gems per week

−11,700 gems per month

−142,350 gems per year

So no, we're not talking about some tiny economy adjustment.

For the most active players, we're talking about potentially hundreds of thousands of gems less per year.

Yes, the Daily Claim also went from 15 to 20 gems.

A massive +5 gems per day.

At 150 old Ad claims, including the Daily Claim:

Old:

765 gems/day

New:

380 gems/day

That's still roughly a 50% reduction.

Thank you for the extra 5 gems though. My grandchildren will inherit the fortune.

And now look at the timing.

We're getting:

Four new modules.

Featured Banners.

A more diluted module pool.

More systems.

More things competing for gems.

More reasons to pull.

And at exactly the same time, one of the few gem sources that hardcore players could actually scale through activity gets hard-capped.

Come on.

If the real intention is to limit free premium currency generation and make buying gems more attractive as more expensive content is introduced, I'd genuinely rather they just say that.

I'd respect the honesty.

Because:

“We want to reduce the disparity created by 24/7 gameplay”

sounds much nicer than:

“Some players are generating more premium currency than we'd like without paying for it.”

Funny how this pattern keeps showing up in successful games.

Game becomes successful → more systems → more currencies → more upgrades → more things to spend on → free progression gets restricted → spending becomes increasingly attractive.

Must be one hell of a business school they're all attending. 😂

And I'm not against monetization. I myself spend activly in this game...

Developers need to make money. Servers, development and employees aren't free.

But there's a pretty important difference between monetizing your game and slowly changing the economy so that:

playing more gives diminishing returns while paying gives increasingly better returns.

That's what bothers me here.

And blaming the change primarily on “24/7 players” or implicitly on bots/autoclickers also conveniently ignores all the legitimate hardcore players who simply optimized the game exactly the way the game encouraged them to.

So genuinely:

What problem does a 60-claim hard cap solve that couldn't have been addressed without nerfing legitimate hardcore players?

Because from where I'm standing, this looks a lot less like an anti-bot measure and a lot more like putting a ceiling on free gem income right before giving us even more reasons to need gems. ^^
