My NF can’t afford me anymore
Been with this family for 4 years now. Started at $20/hr for 1 baby, bumped up to $25 with second NK, no raise for 2 years, then I asked for $27.
They wrote up a new contract, reduced my PTO, added more hours to my schedule, and reduced my GH.
After a discussion with them, they basically said it’s getting hard to afford me. I understand because everything is expensive now, but I obviously make a fraction of what they make.
I could find a new nanny job starting at $30/hr easily but I already decided to stick with them for another year, then I’m going back to school because I honestly can’t do nannying anymore.
I really want to quit and just find a new job with one baby. I love nannying babies and I’m sad I won’t get the chance to anymore.
My husband is strongly discouraging me from finding a new job, since we have a plan with me going back to school next year to finish my degree. But I was already struggling with a preschooler and a toddler, and the thought of another year of this is making me depressed. Especially now that I can see how unappreciated I am by NF.
While I did get the raise, reducing my GH and PTO left such a bad taste. I’ve worked 4 days a week for the last 2 years and it was so nice. Now I’m back to 5 days a week, likely hitting 42 hours every week. My GH was reduced to 32 hours and they compromised with 36 after I talked to them.
While I can likely find a higher paying nanny job, I feel like it’s so hard to find a family with no WFH NPs. And I hate the thought of sneakily doing interviews without NF knowing. And what would I do about a reference when I’ve been here for 4 years? I feel like the best thing is to just stay for one more year.
