Does DPI not really matter - as long as your mouse and surface are high quality ?

I've been noticing a lot of elite aimers lately — especially in games like Apex, CoD, and Battlefield — running 1600 DPI or higher.

But at the end of the day, does it really matter? If you're already on a modern esports-grade mouse with a flawless sensor and a quality pad (Artisan, etc.), is high DPI basically placebo?

Or does 1600+ actually make a measurable difference for micro-tracking and small adjustments?
