I always assumed I would love living alone bc I’m an introvert who likes their space and free time. I thought it was a good time to try living alone. I have a decent job but I work nights so roommates’ schedules can clash. I have my cat and my boyfriend.

I thought I found a nice, cheap apt but I’ve been here 2 months and I hate it here. The landlord is very hands off (for example a heat wave blew a fuse and my neighbor had to replace it on his own). It’s very dark and there’s been so many bugs. I hate spiders and there’s almost one everyday in my living room. I’m constantly checking when I go into a room. I saw the biggest spider the other day (size of my hand) and I just broke down to my bf. I said I wish I hadn’t moved and I was constantly anxious when I was home alone. I said I wanted to break my lease but my bf suggested I talk with the landlord about the bugs first and then maybe try some things of my own. But tbh bugs is a big dealbreaker for me.

I feel stupid bc I didn’t realize two crucial issues with moving here. 1) the apt is old and surrounded my trees and by swamps so it’s incredibly buggy 2) I lived alone during the summers when past roommates moved out early or were away for work. All those times I was super excited at first but by the end of the summer I felt lonely and a little crazy.

Everyone is telling me to just give it a try but I’m pretty unhappy here. I know I could try to make the living situation (aka the bugs) better but I also just feel like I’m at my breaking point. I thought about going to therapy but I feel like I can’t ignore the problems in my apt . Do I talk with my landlord? Do I try to break the lease and move on? Do I just stick it out for another 10 months?
