Why do I (19f) keep on making friends with people who make fun of how I look and how can I stop making the same mistakes?

For some reason this has been a continued pattern across all my life. I’ll get a friend and they’ll relentlessly mock me and my appearance BUT at the same time give really weird and off putting “compliments”.

Just recently I had this friend who told me he forgot I liked girls. (I’m bi)

I reminded him that he told me I seemed gay and then he immediately said I looked like I played volleyball and have gay face. If you forget I like women why would I also have gay face? (Whatever that means!) We were online friends so not face to face, but still…

He also told me I looked like I liked white guys and I was confused and he was like “I love how out of everything this is the one time you’re offended” (so he knows he’s a dick)

He also tricked me and played a prank on me that he could read my aura and I believed him and then he made fun of me for believing in his obvious joke. (Me and him both were open to talking about spiritual topics, unless he was lying about everything the whole time)

He also gave me very weird and off putting “compliments”. He told me I looked computer-generated because I was symmetrical? And told me I should “lowkey be an influencer”.

He also said other weird things such as that I look British and like I have a good singing voice.

Now, this wouldn’t bother me so much but this has been a pattern I’ve received since elementary school. Basically, all the “friends” I’ve ever had have made fun of how I look.. It’s just so confusing. Especially with girls because they will compliment me at first and then later go on to rip me apart. Why does this happen to me and what can I do to stop it?

I feel so naive and dumb for ever considering someone like that my friend. The cherry on top is that he was obese and wouldn’t send me photos of himself because he said he was ugly. He also wouldn’t send me voice messages because he was worried he sounded too “gay”. (He’s straight apparently) I never once made him feel uncomfortable about how he looked and promised I wouldn’t judge him no matter what. But this is how he treated me.. 🤮😭
