Does Melee perform well at end game?

My 3 favorite characters were PAL/DRU/ENC in OGEQ and P1999 so I did that, and stuck with it until 50. I now have solid planar, sky and dragon gear and for fun swapped out DRU for ROG to start levelling. And of course its rediculous (esp with planar gear).

I'm curious at end game, is ROG damage meaningful against the planes / dragons or are you just stuck in defensive stance the whole time anyway? Super fun to level killing level 40s at 25 but I just wonder if PAL/DRU/ENC is better for end game or if PAL/ROG/ENC will kill faster, overall, or if it is even a different experience and doesn't matter.
