Bugs + Commodity Trading = fail
So I've been doing a lot of commodity trading lately.
I've been trying to practice what I preach. I don't want hauling contracts in the game, they kill piracy, they kill the game's best game loop. I don't want to do that.
So I've been doing a lot of commodity trading.
And Commodity trading, needs work. It doesn't pay enough. Every time I do it, I ask myself why I'm not just running Gilly's. I've made tens of millions of aUEC running Gillys. Its boring as hell, but it pays, pays consistently and its fast.
But I've been doing Commodity trading anyway.
Then I started losing ships.
And its not to pirates.
The primary culprit, has not been freight elevators, not for me. Its hangar doors.
I usually fly small fast ships, and I try to avoid flying larger ships. My largest combat ship is a Guardian MX. I don't own a Corsair. I don't want to get used to flying large low skill potato ships because its convenient. I want to have to sweat, if only a little while doing PVE ship combat.
So I don't fly big ships, unless its a hauler.
A few days ago, I came in on a landing, and was going a little bit too fast. My fault. I slammed my freelancer into outside pad a bit too hard and took damage, and that was bad, that was my bad, but then the door closed on me.
And it crushed the ship. Crushed it.
I lost like a million aUEC. I blamed myself, because I did hit a little hard, but I don't think it was hitting that caused the blow up, it was the door. Its like in an auto-accident, the insurance rules claim that if its 10% your fault, then you're at fault... so I blamed myself, I was at fault.
Fast forward a few days. I have an Ironclad Assault - gifted by CIG until the 2nd. I'm gonna take advantage of this thing.
So I take it, and I load up every bit of cash I have into it. Only 3 mil, I've been living in Pyro away from Gillys and I've been doing it a long time, and the losses I'm periodically taking when hauling commodities are so great that I haven't made any money that way, but I'm gonna bet the farm on this run.
So I fill up the Ironclad with all but 8k aUEC.
And I go to the Stanton Jump point.
And I realize that I don't have a jump module, shit, I spent all my money, this is gonna be a problem. I guess it doesn't come standard with the Assault (or maybe its another bug, who knows).
I go to land at Stanton Gateway, and it takes a while to get the Assault to the Hangar. The Assault is slow as hell, slower than other ships I'm used to flying, and I'm being careful because I have every bit of aUEC I have loaded on the ship.
And I'm happy because everything is going perfectly. And as I enter the hangar the fucking door closes on me.
And crushes the giant spaceship like a tin can.
What the fuck.
Its space, its 2989 or whatever, and the space station doors don't have a proximity lock to keep them from closing on vehicles. Not just that, but they're apparently so over-engineered that they can crush a hunk of steel the size of a skyscraper like a tin can.
I'm calling it a bug. Hangar doors shouldn't be guillotines. I shouldn't have lost the freelancer to one, and I sure as hell shouldn't have lost the Ironclad Assault to one.
Even with very high returns being common, it is hard to get ahead in commodity trading. I've been trying. Taking the big risks, but this is some buggy shit.
And I'm sure I'm going to be flooded by responses from white knights saying that ts my fault, but that's absurd. If an elevator door chopped your arm off as you tried to step through it, you'd say it was badly engineered. Hangar doors, are badly engineered.
This was a bug.
