Ghost Festival Observances?

Greetings folks. I am Chinese and grew up in a nominally Buddhist household. Recently, in the last decade or so, we became more cognizant of the Ghost Festival (the 15 day of the 7th month of the Lunar Calendar). Are there rules or customs for this day that you observe in your household specifically for this day? How about those who observe Obon or similar days?
