Efficiently filling needs without cheats?

I just got the Sims 3 and I kinda wanted to enjoy it in all its glory before using cheats, but the needs are so hard to get up. Every second of my gameplay has been trying to fill my sims needs before and after work, but she always just hates her life because her needs drop so fast and go up so slow.

Is there any way to get her needs up well?
