How Do You Integrate Visualization into an Evolving Design?

A client requests a warmer lobby, while the design team is still comparing facade options. The model continues to evolve, and a complete presentation is not yet necessary.

At this stage, visualization should support the next design decision. A practical workflow is to move from concept exploration to model-based evaluation, then into presentation production.

1. Explore during early ideation

When the discussion centers on style, color, or atmosphere, begin by comparing several visual directions.

D5 Lite’s AI Mode lets you work from the current model view using prompts, reference images, and presets. For a lobby study, this could involve testing alternative material palettes or spatial moods before selecting a direction. AI-generated images can support concept discussions.

2. Evaluate the direction in the model

Once the team identifies a promising direction, return to the model to review its geometry, materials, and lighting in context.

Render Mode uses real-time path tracing to evaluate material response, sunlight, and the overall atmosphere of a space as the design develops.

D5 Lite operates within SketchUp, Rhino, and Revit. Material and lighting settings are stored with the model file, helping visualization studies remain connected to the evolving design.

3. Transition to presentation production

During an early design review, a decision-ready image may be sufficient.

For advanced scene refinement, polished stills, animations, VR, or interactive presentations, transfer the project to D5 Render. This is a one-way workflow from D5 Lite to D5 Render.

The key is to align the level of visualization with the decision at hand: explore potential directions, evaluate them in the model, and develop the selected option for presentation.

Which stage takes the most time in your workflow: concept exploration, material and lighting evaluation, or final presentation production?
