Weekly Giveaway: Give Your Old Gear a Second Life
Which piece of your gear has the least use per dollar?
You can probably name it fast. A pin-stack unit whose stack tops out too light. A GHD you use a few times a year. A Smith machine you stopped loading. Something bought for a goal you no longer have.
This week, let's try to bring back that piece of gear. Two ways in, depending on which side of the problem you're on.
If You Have a VOLTRA: Show Us the Revival
Take the piece that stopped earning its floor space and add VOLTRA to the mix. Comment with:
- What the gear is, and roughly how long it sat unused
- How you rigged VOLTRA to it
- What it does now that it couldn't do before
Photos or video help. A clear description works fine. Multiple entries welcome.
People here have already been doing this:
- u/OptimalMale VOLTRA-fied three selectorized machines and stitched them into one video
- u/pCullenMurphy turned an old GHD into a loaded back extension, which works especially well with a squat harness
- u/steventual runs a Smith machine with two units, loading in the low position so he can start reps from the top
- u/gregdunn416 had a custom mount welded so his Body Solid G Row works anywhere in his apartment instead of only next to the wall mounts
- u/VLWonder built a rower out of an ab roller, a bench seat and damper mode, and hit his target heart rate first try
If You Don't Have a VOLTRA Yet: Tell Us What You're Stuck With
Name the piece of gear that isn't pulling its weight and what you wish it did. One line is enough. Then the owners here take a swing at it.
Maybe there's a way to zhuzh it up so it earns its place again. Or maybe the best thing to do is to sell it.
Prizes
- 30,000 Power Credits: best revival. The setup that gets the most out of the least.
- 3 x 20,000 Power Credits: best answers. Whoever gives a stuck person a setup that actually works.
- 3 x 10,000 Power Credits: best problems. The ones that pull the thread open.
Always remember to practice safe mounting, old frames deserve a second look before you load them.
Multiple entries are welcome. Winners announced in 5 days.
Decide your gear's fate.
