Seriously, how do they manage this, starting on Taiwan, going south and occupying the world's largest archipelago in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines rather than mainland Asia, then they head west to settle Madagascar and stop instantly when they see the African mainland, head west in possibly the most ludicrously human expansion in human history to settle every 2 square mile speck of land in the Pacific divided from each other by like 2000 miles, and also stop immediately when they see Australia and even South America ([which they reached and astutely refused to settle](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/native-americans-polynesians-meet-180975269/)). They fucking discover and settle New Zealand and Easter Island of all places but refuse to even consider Australia. Even the bit on the map you see here that goes into Myanmar isn't actually on the mainland, its an offshot of Austronesians called the [Moken](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moken), it has to be intentional at that point.

The only fly in the ointment are the Cham people of Vietnam and the Malay on the Malay peninsula, but I guess a peninsula as close to being an island as possible while technically being part of the mainland and the history of the Cham regarding Vietnam is a harsh lesson on why Austronesians must avoid a continental mainland.

Props to the Austronesian peoples for being so absurdly dedicated to the "we live on islands, not continents!" gimmick, nobody else does it like them.
