My goal was to launch for the upcoming Steam Next Fest in October. By mid-August, I had finished development up to my target specs, so I was secretly feeling pretty relaxed.

However, around mid-August, I posted mockups of my work to a Reddit community and was hit with fierce backlash saying the artwork looked "too AI-generated." On top of that, feedback from users who playtested the build made me realize there were serious design flaws in my levels.

So since last weekend, I’ve been overhauling almost everything I built. Around that time, ChatGPT—which my wife had been using for free to check workout routines—kept prompting for a subscription, so I decided to jump on Codex Plus as well. That brought me to subscribing to three separate $20/month tools: Claude, Codex, and Antigravity.

I had high expectations for Codex since people said its performance was on par with Claude, but in actual use, I found its handling of graphics and UI assets far less polished. For example, even after settling on specific object placements in a draft, Codex would frequently take liberties and alter elements it was never supposed to touch whenever I tried layering new assets on top.

With the workload piling up and time running out, I decided to deploy all three tools at once, using Claude as the central orchestrator. Right now, Claude handles the crucial UI design decisions, while delegating the necessary sub-tasks to the other two tools and reviewing their outputs. Honestly, with this much back-and-forth prompting and reviewing, I sometimes wonder if I’m just burning the exact same amount of tokens as having Claude do it all directly. Still... the overhaul looks like it will wrap up within about ten days.

Today, using Claude’s mockups, I finally had Codex overhaul the in-game assets while Antigravity reworked the lobby. I’m looking forward to having this completely revamped version finished very soon.
