The Face Reading Experiment — Can AI Read You?

The Game

The idea is simple: give an AI a clear photograph of your face and ask it to make a character assessment using the old traditions of physiognomy, historical face-reading systems, folklore and old wives' tales — without giving it any information about who you are first. The objective isn't to prove that physiognomy works, because there is no good scientific evidence that facial features can reliably reveal personality. Instead, we're testing something more interesting: how convincing can an AI make a personality reading when it is given nothing but a human face and a collection of historical beliefs about what that face supposedly means? Once the AI has produced its reading, the person reveals how accurate, inaccurate or hilariously wrong they think it is. The result could go anywhere — perhaps the AI produces a surprisingly accurate description, perhaps it completely misses the mark, perhaps it hits some obvious stereotypes while getting everything important wrong, or perhaps different people discover that the same facial characteristics repeatedly generate remarkably similar personality descriptions. That's the experiment. Post your face, get your reading, score the AI, and let's see what happens when hundreds of people become the guinea pigs.

How To Play

  1. Take a reasonably clear photograph of your face.
  2. Give it to ChatGPT or another AI capable of analysing images.
  3. Don't tell the AI anything about yourself beforehand.
  4. Use the prompt below.
  5. Post the AI's reading alongside your photograph.
  6. Tell everyone how accurate you think it was — brutally honestly.
  7. Give it a score out of 10.
  8. Other people can guess whether the AI got you right before you reveal your own verdict.

The Prompt

And here's the bit I'd really like to see...

Once people have posted their results, don't tell them whether they're right or wrong immediately.

Let the comments guess.

Then the original poster comes back with:
