How much will our (under 10 year old) kids actually know how to use a computer when they start working?
Okay, so in order to prove that you won't need to learn how to type, I'm typing all of this with my voice with Wispr Flow. No, I'm not promoting it, even though I think it's great!
Basically, the question is that right now my wife and I are trying to decide when to introduce our kids to technology and screens for their own use, like for playing math games and stuff like that. For sure not entertainment! We don't want to promote entertainment via screens for as long as they are under our roof. We are a proudly screen-free family, except for the devices that the parents use, like our phones and my iPad, upon which I am currently voice typing this, and my work computer, of course.
The question is: when our kids start working, how much will they need to know how to use a computer? Will they be handicapped if they don't start using computers early? I really don't think they will be handicapped, honestly, because it really shouldn't take someone more than like two weeks playing around with a computer full-time to learn how to use one. Just the basic functions and basic applications, and then when you get to work, you'll have to learn how to use the software anyway. As long as you know the basic keyboard shortcuts like Control V or Control S, then you should be fine, right?
So im posting this here to see what everyone else thinks about this.
