Moving away from Jira? Don't just look for a replacement

Changing software can feel a bit like changing jobs. You've learned how things work and built your routines. For people moving away from Jira, it can feel quite similar. At first, the "have to" can feel much more present than the "want to". Which naturally leads to a lot of comparisons between OpenProject and Jira.

But when changing jobs, would you really look for an exact copy of your old one? There will be things you want to keep, but hopefully also things you want to be better.

We think the same is worth considering when moving away from Jira. If you're making the effort to migrate anyway, don't just ask what a new tool needs to replace. Ask what you would actually like to improve.

With OpenProject, you gain more control over your software and data through open source and long-term self-hosting. You get integrated project management that connects planning, collaboration, resources and controlling. And you can combine classical, agile and hybrid ways of working.

Those are some of the bigger differences. And then there are smaller features you may not even know you're missing.

In our latest article, we take a closer look at why having to move away from Jira can also be an opportunity to improve.
