Lindsay Clancy case triggering my anxiety and OCD
The Lindsay Clancy case is really triggering my OCD and I'm struggling with some scary intrusive thoughts.
I keep getting afraid that somehow I could “snap” one day and hurt my toddler, even though I absolutely do not want to hurt her and the thought is horrifying to me. I love my daughter and would never want anything to happen to her, but my OCD keeps making me question myself and wonder, “What if I suddenly lose control?”
I'm also a single mom, and I do get frustrated and overwhelmed sometimes, especially when my toddler is having a difficult day. That's part of what scares me so much. My brain takes the fact that I can get frustrated and turns it into, “What if one day you're too frustrated and you actually snap?” I don't have a desire to hurt her, but the possibility of losing control terrifies me.
What has made it worse is that I found out she was taking some of the same medications I take — hydroxyzine, Ativan (lorazepam), and propranolol. Now my OCD is connecting those dots and telling me that because we have some medications in common, maybe something similar could happen to me.
I know logically that millions of people take these medications and that taking them doesn't make me like her, but I'm having a really hard time getting my brain to let go of the association.
Has anyone else had a case like this trigger harm-OCD or make you afraid that you could suddenly “snap”? I'm looking for advice on how to handle the intrusive thoughts without feeding the reassurance cycle.
