Negative Feedback Today

Career advice

I work at an extremely high acuity pediatric ICU.
I love it. I give it 100% when I go in there and think about work when I’m not there. I am extremely hard on myself. I have been an RRT for a little over a year.

Imagine my surprise when my boss pulled me into her office to give me feedback and it was not great. I have made a few mistakes with equipment that were great learning opportunities and I know I won’t make those mistakes again. There were some unknown rules that I wasn’t following as well, (do a due treatment when you transfer a patient to another unit, silly stuff like that)

But she said the providers tell her I give push back?? I was shocked. I follow through on every ask from a provider.
So I’ve been thinking about maybe how I come across? Maybe it’s my tone? My job is very stressful and overwhelming and I can become a little short when I’m stressed. I get overwhelmed when a provider adds on hefty treatments to my already very full assignment and maybe I come off resistant? I do what is asked, it is not their fault that the patients are high acuity.
She said the team is losing confidence in me but she knows I care a lot about my job, come in with a positive attitude and thinks I can work through this speed bump.

I feel so defeated. Is the ICU environment not right for me? How can I change my communication approaches? I know I need to ask for help sooner then when I’m already drowning, but some of my coworkers are unapproachable. I have cried about this all morning.
