Who is the real Gwen Stacy?

I think things like The TASM movies and Specular have given people the wrong impression about Gwen Stacy, she’s portrayed as this science nerd girl who’s basically equal to Peter on smarts and status, but I feel like that’s not the real Gwen Stacy, can someone refresh me on Gwen and who she was in the comics.
