My issue with You Can’t Die Young
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we got an official release of the song! However, my problem comes with the way it was released; I just wish that this would’ve been released as a stand alone single instead of now muddying the storyline/release of Chapter 2. Like what I loved about the OUAG albums is that they are both fully realised concept albums that knew what they were and presented that to you, I thought that was the whole point of splitting the story into 2 records, so that all the songs that Manson and Bates wrote would get released but now, after spending so much money on the chapter 2 boxset, there’s another song that’s tied to the album? I’m glad the song got released but I wish it could’ve just been a single like In the Air Tonight because not only does it cause so many problems with streaming and having to have two versions of the same album in my library, but now the boxset I spent £100 on feels kinda pointless if it doesn’t even have all the content on it? Like You Can’t Die Young would have been awesome as a boxset exclusive considering there was a whole side of the 7” vinyls that was wasted because the album’s Tracklist is 9 songs - this bonus track would have WARRANTED the decision to split the album onto 7” records for the boxset. It also would have gave some purpose for the boxset exclusive slimcase CD if it contained a bonus track, but no. It’s just…there…and god forbid they now try and release a huge collection release with bonus tracks and altered track listing after we’ve all spent time and money on the standard editions and piecing together the story like cmon this would have worked as a standalone single, maybe with a couple of remixes from chapter 1 and 2 thrown in to make it an EP or something? Regardless m glad we’ve got the song but the way its release has been handled REALLY irks me.
