Scared to throw YVL

Greetings vamps, I've recently been listening to this artist Playboi Carti and I just found out that Playboi and his Opium crew like to throw the YVL hand gesture. As a baby vamp, I want to acquaint myself further with this community so I thought I'll start throwing up YVL too.

I tried it in class but it was misinterpreted as a gang sign by my teacher who then proceeded to humiliate me in front of the entire class. I'm shaken to my core from this encounter, and feel reluctant about risking throwing a YVL again. My fellow trimly dimly vamps, please guide me on what I should do
