Got kicked out at 20 and I need advice
Hi, so I’m a 20 year old woman. For some context, my mom and dad were 17 when they had me. My dad got his life together and was really involved in raising me. My biological mom (who I will refer to as Becky) went down a bad path with drugs, unemployment, had 6 kids after me, severely abused and neglected me, and has gotten all 7 of her kids taken. I got taken away at 5 and never had contact again until I was 19 and found her Facebook.
My step mom was around since I was 5 and raised me my whole life. I grew up really close with my dad and her, and she’s my mom. So anyway, in December of last year my mom asked me to vacuum my room and I did. I left to go to a friends house and she called me screaming and calling me a lazy piece of shit, I’m ungrateful, I don’t help around the house, and calling me a liar all bc she said “I know you didn’t vacuum your room bc I don’t see lines on the carpet” and I told her I did. Turned into a huge fight and I got kicked out for like 3 weeks.
We talked it out and it’s been good since. However, a few days ago I got off work, did homework, and cleaned my room. One of my buddies who works late got off at midnight and asked if I wanted to go sit in the hot tub and hang with him since it’s his birthday weekend. It also happened to be my dad’s birthday the next day. So I go over to his apartment and we go to the hot tub. He brought some drinks out and I had a few drinks. I know I’m underage but I turn 21 in three weeks and I didn’t think it was a big deal.
I get home, and it’s like 6am. I run into my mom and she asks what I’m doing. I told her I was asleep and I just woke up. (I know I shouldn’t have lied but she calls me lazy and gets mad when I’m out late or sleep in after being out late so I lied bc I just didn’t wanna deal with it). She apparently could tell I was mildly intoxicated. She gets my dad and he comes upstairs and I start getting screamed at about how I’m selfish, I’m lazy, I have issues, being out till 6 isn’t normal, drinking underage is not normal, I’m a liar, you look high, what did I take, etc etc. they told me “you’re just like Becky” “I won’t have a liar in this house”, “you ruin everything. You’re just like Becky ruining someone else’s birthday bc you can’t control yourself” and so on. My mom said she can’t have me living in her house and I said “okay last time you kicked me out my friends dad told me I could move in with them in Texas so I can just go do that” and she screamed “well good”.
I start packing my stuff, my dad follows me into my room and asks me to stay, tells me I have a problem and I’m a habitual liar, I’ve been a problem since I was a young teenager (which is actually hilarious bc I never snuck out, never went to a party, never even tried a vape, never drank, never had a boyfriend, and graduated with a 4.2 GPA) like deadass I’ve been a dream child for them. I didn’t have my first sip of alcohol until I was 18 and in college and then I felt bad and snitched on myself. So to tell me I have an issue and I’ve been a problem since I was a teenager is actually hilarious. And now, I work 2 jobs and I’m graduating with a bachelors degree and honors in December. Like your otherwise very successful daughter making a dumb choice to drink 3 weeks before her 21st birthday just isn’t that serious.
They said that they know I took something (I literally did not and have never. Alcohol was the only thing I did or ever have), that every time I’m out late and I say I’m with a friend I’m lying and I’m getting drunk every time, basically accusing me of a bunch of shit that’s genuinely not true. I know I fucked up by drinking underage and lying to them about it. But they’ve created a relationship where I know I can’t make mistakes.
My mom still won’t text me or talk to me. My sister told me the next day my dad was crying. He’s been texting me and telling me he loves me and misses me and wants to talk to me about the whole situation. I feel bad but I also don’t want whether I have a home to be dependent on if I pissed my mom off. She’s always the one who kicks me out and my dad asks me to stay and stays in contact with me to an extent. But my dad also said hurtful things just bc he was mad and I don’t want to be in this situation again.
So if anyone has advice on how to fix things with my parents that would be great. Also, if anyone knows how a 20 year old with no savings, and a 650 dollar car payment manages to get a good job and make enough money to move out and support myself that would also be great. Any advice on the whole situation would be really appreciated. Thanks!
