Accepted a random girl’s friend request because I was bored. Accidentally unlocked the “Horny Catfish” side quest.
So this happened yesterday, and I still cannot decide whether I should be angry, amused, or impressed by the sheer audacity.
I’m a 24F, and around 2 PM yesterday I received a friend request from a girl named “Mohini.” I didn’t think much of it. I assumed it was just some random girl, accepted the request, and within a minute she messaged me.
I was bored, so I thought, “Sure, why not? Let’s talk.”
The conversation started completely normally.
“Hi, how are you?”
“Where are you from?”
“How old are you?”
Nothing unusual.
Then she asked if I had a boyfriend.
I said "No. I’m currently preparing for job interviews, so I honestly don’t have much time for dating."
And I thought that would be the end of it.
HAHA. NO.
She suddenly asked me something along the lines of:
“So how do you relieve yourself? Or are you waiting for your husband?”
Excuse me???
I told her that was an extremely inappropriate question and asked why she thought I would want to discuss something like that with a complete stranger.
She then casually asked if I wanted to do lesbian sexting and whether I watched porn.
At this point I was genuinely pissed, but I kept my response calm and basically told her that if she continued, I would report the conversation to the cybercrime authorities.
She immediately backed off and disappeared.
The weird feeling remained, though.
And unfortunately for this person, I have the unfortunate habit of becoming a detective whenever something feels suspicious.
So I started looking at the account.
The account was barely new. Most of the followers looked like bots or thirst-trap accounts. The profile picture looked suspiciously AI-generated. And most importantly, the way “she” was talking just did not sound like how a woman would normally talk to me.
My suspicion was basically:
“Yeah... this is probably some dude pretending to be a girl.”
Later that night, when I finally had some free time, I decided to test my theory.
I messaged “her” pretending that I genuinely wanna talk with her.
“Hi sister, what’s up?”
And almost immediately, he started asking me to send him a picture.
I told him "No. I don’t post my face on social media and I’m not comfortable sending my picture to strangers."
Apparently, that concept was completely incomprehensible to him.
He kept insisting that everyone posts pictures nowadays and asked why I was being so secretive.
I told him:
“Whether everyone else posts pictures or not, I’m not comfortable doing it. It’s my choice.”
After several rounds of this, he eventually asked me to at least send him a voice recording because he wanted to hear my voice.
At that point I finally asked:
“Are you actually a girl, or are you a guy pretending to be one?”
He denied it initially.
But after some more conversation, he finally admitted it.
Yep.
It was a guy.
He told me his real name, said he wanted a girlfriend “to have fun with,” and claimed that he had no friends or female friends.
Then came the most ridiculous part:
“Now that you know the truth, will you be my girlfriend?”
BRO.
YOU JUST SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY PRETENDING TO BE A WOMAN, SEXUALLY HARASSING A STRANGER, IGNORING HER BOUNDARIES, AND CATFISHING HER.
AND YOUR CONCLUSION WAS:
“Anyway, wanna date?”
I asked him why he was doing this instead of simply being honest and trying to improve himself.
I genuinely tried to give him some actual advice. I told him that he was young, and instead of wasting his time pretending to be someone else and chasing random women online, he should focus on his career, build a life for himself, become financially independent, and work on becoming someone he could be proud of. I also told him that being honest and treating women with respect would give him a much better chance of actually finding someone.
His response was basically that all of that was easier said than done and that getting a job or earning money wouldn't magically make a girl like him.
I told him that wasn't the point.
You don't work on yourself because it guarantees you a girlfriend. You do it because becoming a better, more capable person is valuable regardless of whether you have a relationship.
I was honestly hoping he would at least realize that what he had done was creepy and inappropriate.
Nope.
Instead, he basically said he didn't care who it was and that he just wanted “anyone” for fun.
Then, as if that wasn't enough, he asked me to give his account to one of my female friends if I wasn't interested.
That was the moment I was done.
Blocked.
Deleted the chat.
And immediately regretted deleting the chat because now I have absolutely no screenshots to prove this ridiculous sequence of events. 😭
So yeah.
Yesterday I thought I had received a random friend request from another girl.
Instead, I got:
A horny catfish → unsolicited sexual questions → detective investigation → identity reveal → unsolicited girlfriend proposal → career counseling → zero remorse → request for my friend’s account.
What a bizarre day.
