“Good” Neighbors

Vent/Rant

[32F] Found a typed and printed note placed on my [28M] boyfriend’s dash in our driveway as we were on the way out to dinner for our 5 year anniversary. I was already feeling icky, I cried after missing the first half of our day/plans to my aggravated symptoms as I’m coming off of Cymbalta and my period is coming up—

“BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR, CLEAN UP YOUR YARD.”

We live on a corner, and don’t share the yard itself with any of our neighbors. The yard is short and dry in some patches, green and a bit tall/overgrown in others, weeds strewn about a bit. My boyfriend has cut them down a few times but it’s been harder to keep up as I’ve become worse and he’s cared for me. It’s the ‘shrubbiest’ next to our driveway, but it spills a touch onto the sidewalk. I know that folks walking by probably think it’s the one house that’s super inconsiderate to everybody else.

we can’t afford a lawn mower right now. And we’re barely making rent as I await disability. Us moving here and the timing of my drastic decline in health has had us in survival mode.

I also think that if you wanted to be a good neighbor, you’d speak to us in person to get a touch of context and a conversation rather than spout what being a good neighbor is, all without even putting your name or number down on that paper from that so-called neighbor.

It’s an eyesore in an otherwise “perfect, well maintained” neighborhood. We live down the street from 2 schools. The kids use the yard as a path and it’s chill. There’s no trash, it’s just a bit disheveled in comparison to the pristine yards around us.

We’re a young couple who moved into my childhood home my dad held onto for me. (Unfortunately our relationship is not well, so we may not be safe here. Entirely other situation).
