Update on JellyfinDroid: Post removed, rebranding to "Fishbowl", and addressing mod feedback
Hey everyone,
Earlier today I posted about a project I was working on called JellyfinDroid (running a local Jellyfin server natively on Android). The post was removed by the r/jellyfin moderation team, and I wanted to share why, as their feedback was completely fair:
- Trademark/Branding Guidelines: Using the name "Jellyfin" directly in the app name ("JellyfinDroid") causes trademark confusion since it's an unofficial, third-party project.
- AI Tooling Disclosure: The codebase and description were developed with the assistance of agentic AI coding tools (specifically Google Antigravity/Gemini) and I did not explicitly disclose that.
How I'm fixing this:
I want to respect community rules and make this right. I'm actively working on the following updates:
- Rebranding to "Fishbowl": To completely avoid any trademark issues while keeping a friendly connection to the project, I am renaming the app and repository to Fishbowl (representing a local, self-contained environment hosting your server).
- AI Disclosure: I have updated the repository's README to include a clear, open disclosure regarding the use of AI assistant tools during development.
- • Full Transparency: The code remains 100% open-source, runs completely locally on your device, and has zero telemetry or trackers.
- I am finalizing these code changes and testing the new build. I will update you all with the fresh open-source GitHub repository link under the new name soon!
Thanks for the feedback and for keeping the community safe.
