MIL would rather disown her son than apologize to me
I put this update in the comments of my previous post, but I feel like this needs to be an official update because it is so hard to wrap my head around.
Anyways- my MIL has continued to write rude and sarcastic comments about me in their family group chat (I am not in this GC, but my fiance shows me)
My fiance ended up responding with a simple message defending me- "She said the wedding is cancelled because of how you acted, it has nothing to do with inviting your family."
Afterward his father called him. Although my fiance had gone to his parents house that morning to try and talk to his mom and she refused, his dad was now telling him*"c*ome over at 8 PM, she wants to talk to you."
Here are the notes from their conversation that night:
- I am a rude and immature brat who acts 6 years old.
- Questioning my fiance to make sure I am the "right one" and asking him, "What is even good about her?"- cutting him off whenever he tries to answer.
- Saying that I don't have a job (not true I have the best job ever, it's just unconventional)
- Saying I'm uneducated (again, not true I went to university at 16!).
- When my fiance read out the rude texts she sent about me, she said, *"*Yeah, and so what! It's all true."
- When my fiance asked her to apologize to me, she said, *"*NO! what for?"
It was also revealed that she wanted to invite her family to our wedding because they've *"*never seen something fancy" and she said "FINE, i'll just take them to a fancy dinner instead."
She also said that small weddings are stupid, weddings are supposed to be BIG, and that we should have a BIG wedding and a small party (the exact opposite of what we wanted)
Clearly inviting her family has nothing to do with celebrating our marriage- her priority is to show off the venue we wanted to book. Otherwise how is a fancy dinner comparable to watching a family member get married?
Why a big wedding and a small party? She doesn't care about celebrating us... It feels like she just wanted to show off to as many people as possible because she is the "rich one" who left the Philippines and moved to Canada, while her other family members are still in the village where they grew up.
Since my fiance stood up to her for the first time in his life- and by that, I mean not just blindly agreeing with her to keep the peace.. she told him he is "exiled from the family."
She told him to give her back his house key. When he said no, she said, *"*Fine, I'm changing the locks."
My fiance said, "It's Dad's house too," and that pissed her off- mind you, her husband pays the mortgage...
She told her son that he "gets nothing now," that she's "never helping him," and told him "you can be a part of her family now instead." She told him to pack the stuff he has at their place and to never come back. She kept saying, "I have 2 kids only" (my fiance has 2 siblings) and that he is "kicked out of the family."
My fiance packed up whatever he could fit in his car and left. Since then, he has not spoken to her or his siblings.
She tried to start up shit again by texting him, "Why is your precious lady reading our messages? That's ridiculous..." Ironic that I saw that message instantly, as I was using his phone for work.
My fiance wanted to reply, but I told him I didn't want him to because she is just trying to start a fight now that he's not talking to her. Two hours later, she unsent the messages.
Anyways, I still feel like such an idiot that I thought 7 years of going out of my way to be on good terms with her meant anything. I really thought she liked me lol.
My fiance and I would go over there for dinner, and I'd make sure to sit at the table after and talk to her- sometimes for hours. Sounds stupid, but her other two kids don't seem to do that, and I knew it bothered her. I would give her Mother's Day gifts, Christmas gifts, and birthday gifts. Even this last Christmas, I spent DAYS painting her a picture of something meaningful. I would come with my fiance when he would drive her somewhere to try and show my support- even at like 5 am for an eye appointment, or hours of driving to and from the airport on my birthday. I would share things with her, text her, and send her photos. I'd pay her to do my hair (even though she'd mess it up sometimes). I was even trying to learn Tagalog, and would say mahal kita even though she never says it to anyone. I even told her gossip/things I SHOULDN'T have because I wanted her to feel included and bond with her over difficult things.
Even when we first started dating when we were 21 and 22, I went out of my way to have a relationship with her when I got NOTHING in return. The first time I met her, she wouldn't even look at me. When my fiance first introduced us, all she said was, "Ok" without looking up from her iPad. I put in a lot of effort over the years, and one comment I make hurts her feelings and I am dead to her- and she is disowning her son.
I'm just ranting, but damn, it's depressing... I guess I was ignorant thinking that I'd somehow be more immune to her wrath.
It also really sucks seeing how sad and hurt my fiance is from all of this. He doesn't deserve it.
This is my 3rd post. I'm not really a Reddit user, but I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has left me supportive comments. It's really helped me during this whole shit storm.
