How should I get back into learning German after a break?

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for some advice on how to get back into learning German after taking a break.

I studied German with tutors for about two years and got to around A2/B1. I was actually stronger in grammar than in vocabulary, but unfortunately, my experience with some of my more recent tutors made me quite discouraged.

At one point, I was being given university-level psychology texts in German, most of which I could barely understand. I also found it increasingly difficult to find a tutor whose teaching style worked for me, and eventually I stopped learning German altogether in March.

Now I’d really like to get back into it. I’m sure I’ve forgotten quite a bit during the break, so I’m wondering what would be the best way to approach it.

What would you recommend for someone at around A2/B1 who wants to rebuild their vocabulary and gradually move towards B2?

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for:

  • textbooks or coursebooks
  • websites
  • YouTube channels
  • vocabulary resources
  • anything that helped you make the jump from A2/B1 to B2

I’d also love to hear how you would structure the learning process after a few months away from the language.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations! 😊
