First car at 40 – What would you buy?

Passed my test at 40 and buying my first car. Automatic only, Dublin, budget could stretch to 25K, but obviously prefer to spend less.

Likely very low mileage. I WFH 3-4 days/week and office is 4km away, so mostly short trips Mon-Fri. Wife and a 2-year-old baby so need room for child seat.

I was surprised to learn that used petrol cars are expensive compared with much newer/lower-mileage EVs. I have a driveway, but it is super narrow and would be a costly job to widen (front garden adjacent to it is large but raised 1 meter) and accommodate an EV and charger setup. Few years down the road I’d like to think that’s the way I’d go.

What car would you recommend given my situation?
