"Smart drive imminent failure" on HP ENVY 360 but no disk errors.
My wife's HP Envy 360 suddenly began giving a warning on boot "Smart drive imminent failure." There's a Samsung M.2 256GB SSD in this computer.
CHKDSK shows no errors. If I continue to boot, after the warning, everything works fine.
So what is the computer seeing in the M.2. SSD that makes it think that it's about to fail? Is it just the age of the M.2 SSD? The computer was purchased in 2018 so the SSD is about eight years old, though oddly the date on the M.2 module shows 2019.08.
I had already put a 1TB SATA SSD as a second drive into the laptop a year ago. So I backed up what was on second drive, cloned the M.2 256GB drive to the SATA 1TB SSD, removed the M.2. 256GB SSD, then restored the files that were previously on the 1TB SATA SSD. Amazingly, Clonezilla worked without a hitch and the computer booted right up with the cloned drive.
Is it normal for SSD drives to begin to fail after a certain number of years?
