Suddenly seeing huge changes
Firstly I want to thank whoever it was that posted the paper towel theory on Reddit. Because honestly that has kept me sane over the last year.
I'm going to apologise in advance because this may get rambly.
Quick recap on my journey - started Wegovy May 2025. Initially a fantastic response I lost 3st ish in 6 months. Then at month 6 out of nowhere it stopped working. I carried on for another 4 months increasing the dose but I was still gaining weight. ended up putting on over a stone.
Took 2 months off and then restarted in May 2026 on MJ. The difference was like night and day. MJ fully works for me in a way that Wegovy never did. No food cravings, hunger / appetite much less. I actually know when I am full now and no desire for alcohol at all. Not that I was a massive drinker maybe 2 gins on a Friday night. Since starting on MJ in May I've lost 2st and I'm the lightest I've been in 5 years.
So back to the point after that tangent! Apologies. I'm now 60lbs down. Other than my husband and one family friend no one has noticed. To be fair I didn't notice. I was getting upset about the lack of perceived progress . Even though you could see in my photos the difference in my body shape, I couldn't feel the difference or see it.
I stumbled across the paper towel theory and that's what has kept me sane. I'm about half way through my weight loss journey and still very lucky to be having great results on the lowest dose. Especially since switching to the backs of my arms to inject. Something I'd have never of believed until I tried it. So if you aren't getting the same effects on the dose that was working well before try switching up the sites. Thank you to those who have posted regarding this.
Up until probably the last two weeks I was really struggling with the fact I'd lost so much weight but I just didn't feel it or really see it. Suddenly clothes that fitted two weeks ago are hanging off me, my jeans fall down even with a belt on. My knickers have been falling down, hilariously! Shoes that didn't fit now fit. My wedding ring fits, necklaces and bracelets now fit again. I actually look like I have arms instead of ham hock legs hanging from my shoulders. I no longer look like the honey monster ( build shape) when I look in the mirror. I've lost the huge fat pad at the back of my neck and the huge shelf of back fat that was above my bum. My tummy is getting smaller. Unfortunately I am very apple shaped so my tummy will always be big it's a family trait. But as long as it gets smaller that's fab.
One thing that isn't getting any smaller is my menopause boobs which is annoying because if they dropped in size I'd be getting into smaller tops as they fit everywhere except on the bust!
Strangers are treating me differently, like a human not a thing. It's really weird as I am still obese, class one now instead of class three I'm 0.1 BMI point off having lost 10 BMI points!
At the moment I'm what used to be my heaviest post Christmas weight and then I'd go on to lose 2stone feel fantastic and then gain the weight over the winter again and start again in January. I'm tall so I look heavy rather than humongous like I did 60lbs heavier.
This time I don't want to get to that previous weight where I'd be a size 16 people would be telling me I looked fab and I stopped. I actually want to get to a healthy BMI.
Anyway for those of you on a long journey like I am ( looking at 8,9,10 stone to lose) if you haven't seen the paper towel theory please Google it. It makes so much sense. For a brief recap think of your body as a full roll of paper towel. Initially as you are taking the sheets off ( so you losing the first few stone) it makes no real impact on the size of the paper towel roll. Then all of a sudden you hit half way or maybe even more or less and you can see the paper towel roll is smaller. Every sheet after that makes a huge difference. That's where I feel I am at the moment.
If you managed to stick with this I applaud you. It's my first ever post, despite being on Reddit since April 2025!
Thanks to the MJ community on Reddit I learn so much from you all daily.
I hope this helps someone, especially when you feel you aren't seeing any changes.
