Is my boyfriend’s behavior during fights emotional abuse, disrespect, or an understandable stress response?
My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 months. Recently, during arguments, he has started becoming much harsher than he used to. He doesn't usually call me names or directly insult me, but his tone changes significantly—he becomes cold, irritated, and uses a tu-tadak way of speaking, almost as if I'm an enemy rather than his girlfriend. He cuss at the situation
Sometimes he says things like “jab dekho tab attention chahiye rehta” when he's frustrated about me wanting attention. Ya paglo jaise ladti rehti hai . Tum sab ek jaise ho mujhe kuch na krne do barbad krdo . It only happens on text not on calls
The complicated part is that he sometimes has panic attacks during arguments, but because we're arguing over text, I don't realize he's having one at the time. He is also preparing for a competitive exam under a lot of pressure and has significant childhood trauma and a very difficult family situation.
I understand that these things may explain why he becomes overwhelmed, but I don't want to use them as an excuse for disrespectful behavior. He told me mene usko space nhi di isliye Aisa ho rha hai 😭
How would you classify this pattern?
\- Normal frustration/anger?
\- Emotional disrespect?
\- Emotional abuse?
\- Or someone becoming overwhelmed and reacting poorly because of stress/trauma?
And importantly, what specific behaviors would make you draw the line between “he's overwhelmed” and “this is becoming abusive”?
I want honest answers rather than people automatically taking my side or his side.
