What does "AI fluent" actually mean to you? Genuinely asking

I've been in growth and marketing for 15 years, and lately I keep running into the same disconnect: almost everyone I work with says AI is a big deal, but there's huge variance in what people actually mean by "using AI well." For some it's using ChatGPT to draft emails faster. For others it's building agent workflows that replace half a job.

Curious what the bar is for you. Is there a real skill gap here, or is most of the "AI fluency" conversation overblown and people are further along than they let on? And if you think there IS a real gap, what's actually missing, is it prompting, is it judgment about when to trust the output, is it knowing which tool to reach for?

I've been trying to map this out properly (ended up building a small course on it AI-course.dev if anyone's curious), but I'd rather hear how other people are actually thinking about this before I assume I've got it right.
