Much needed vent about work

Need to talk...

Hey, so recently my work changed their absence policy to having more than 3 in a year results in a warning, then 4th investigation, then 5th disciplinary action.

Context - On june 6th I had a medical abortion, my management team all knew and i got the shifts i needed off covered, however on june 2nd I had complications due to the pregnancy and was In a&e so called out for my shift that day, then the day after my abortion i called out again as i was still feeling really bad both physically and mentally. I didn’t return to work in between both of these sick days which should have made them both 1 absence as i hadn’t returned to work, but the manager who did my return to work meeting put it down as 2, which took me to 3 absences as i had been off before with a sickness bug (i hardly even remember this as it was months and months ago) which resulted in a recorded chat and a warning.

About a month later on july 11th I banged my head on a shelf and cut it quite badly, my partner called an ambulance then called work to say what had happened, i told him to tell them i would be late and would come in once the paramedics had seen to me as i knew i already had 3 absences on record due to the abortion, but my manager told me just to take the day off. This resulted in a formal meeting and an investigation, in which one of my managers accused me of lying, said there was nothing wrong with me, confined to make comments when i returned to work the day after I banged my head etc, and the overall attitude towards the situation was just uncomfortable. I showed them proof (a couple pictures of me covered in blood haha) and they just laughed it off and said “fuck sake”

And now, I have chicken pox, so obviously can’t work for 1-2 weeks (until all the spots scab over). So obviously i had to get a sick note. Important to note i felt ill over the weekend and got sent home about 1-2 hours into my shift both saturday and sunday. The spots appeared on monday and I filled out a self cert and called the store, then emailed them with the self cert and pictures of my chicken pox for proof. One manager messsged me saying “are you sure it’s chicken pox, it doesn’t look that bad” and another manager called me on tuesday to interrogate me basically. Asked if i had been to the doctor and had a formal diagnosis, i said no as i had called the doctors but the said they can’t see me as i have chicken pox and it’s obviously highly contagious. Then asked me if id been to the pharmacy, which i had, asking again if they sad it’s chicken pox, which they did. Then asked if i had medication, yes obviously, so she asked if i had bought it or if it had been prescribed it (why does that matter?). I then found out from one of my close friends that my manager had been asking about if i had been drinking over the weekend etc, said that im lying for more time off even though im just back from holiday, asking colleagues if they’d seen me with any spots in person and more, honestly it feels almost degrading.

Honestly i feel a bit lost. I know they’re technically in the right as this does make up to 5 absences in 12 months, it’s just the attitudes of them due to it all.
